Memory Lake Estates was created with approval of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough on 12 June, 1972, by the General Hawaiian Development Corporation. Originally marketed to residents of Hawaii and Japan, some lots are retained by original purchasers in that state and country. The intention of the property was that it should be developed as a vacation place with horse riding trails and other amenities of leisure living. Over the years, the properties in Memory Lakes Estates have been developed as year round residences for Alaskans.

 

The original Community Association included many other contiguous sections of this area, but the whole of that Community Association was dissolved 18 April, 2001, and the current Memory Lakes Estates One Owner’s Association was incorporated 16 November, 2000. Memory Lakes Estates One Owner’s Association remains the only functioning Community Association out of all the others that devolved from the April 2001 dissolution.

 

Memory Lakes Estates One Owner’s Association is managed by an elected Board of Directors who are elected each year at the Annual Meeting, usually in January. The Board of Directors manage the fiduciary holdings of the Association, pay insurance premiums for the common areas of the Association, manage the architectural review process, manage the distribution of resale certificates when properties in the Association are sold, collect the annual dues established by the membership at the Annual Meeting, and manage the adherence of members to the Covenants and Bylaws.

 

General membership meetings can be called at the pleasure of the Association members. Membership in the Association is a privilege and duty of any property owner within the geographic boundaries of Memory Lakes Estates One. Individual property owners may not withdraw from the Association because Association membership is linked to property ownership.
